Markets spent the week testing how much the bond market could absorb, as oil driven inflation fears pushed yields to multi decade highs before the Treasury stepped in to ease the pressure.

Underneath that, AI infrastructure spending kept expanding, detached from the volatility hitting chipmaker stocks.

Oil and stalled diplomacy push yields higher

The dominant driver early this week has been the breakdown in Middle East diplomacy.

Brent finished around 91 dollars as hopes for a compromise faded.

Trump said he won't renew the expiring agreement with Iran, and fighting flared again in Lebanon.

That shift had immediate consequences

By Tuesday, pressure had shifted from oil to the bond market itself, with 10 year rates near their highest since early 2025 on inflation and debt concerns.

AI spending keeps expanding regardless

Away from the yield story, capital commitments to AI infrastructure continued at scale.

Anthropic expects annual revenue above 65 billion dollars, and Nvidia committed 105 billion dollars to an Ohio data center that OpenAI will lease.

Anthropic's credit line is expected to exceed its 10 billion dollar target ahead of an IPO, and Marvell agreed to let Google buy 12.2 billion dollars in shares for chips.

Investment isn't slowing. The stocks funding it are trading on separate concerns.

Chipmakers sell off, then the Treasury steps in

This year's best performing sector came under pressure.

A closely watched semiconductor index fell 5 percent and the Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.7 percent.

The turn came from bond policy.

The Treasury announced it would double buyback operations for 10 to 30 year securities, aiming to cut borrowing costs after yields hit multi decade highs.

That single move reset the tape

A policy signal moved more than a week of earnings and geopolitics combined.

The key structure

This remains a layered macro market

Geopolitics → Oil → Yields → Federal Reserve and Treasury policy → Equity leadership

Right now

Debt markets are setting the tone. AI investment keeps growing underneath it regardless.
