Let's take a look at how price is actually behaving across markets this week.
SPOT FOREX (USD Mixed Against Majors, JPY Weakens Sharply)
JPY is the clear laggard this week. USD/JPY and GBP/JPY both broke past 0.8%, well ahead of every other pair.
USD itself is mixed elsewhere, firmer against CAD and CHF, softer against EUR, GBP, AUD, and NZD.
Bitcoin extended its decline for a fourth straight week.
FUTURES (Energy Surges, Precious Metals and Equities Diverge)
Energy surged hard this week, gasoil, WTI, and Brent all posting strong gains together.
Gold rallied alongside it, up 8.81%, reinforcing the inflation-linked read seen in recent weeks.
Equities fell the other way. S&P 500 dropped 5.38% while the VIX stayed roughly flat, a milder signal than the sharp risk-off moves seen previously.
Palladium and copper both fell sharply despite gold's strength, showing the metals complex splitting internally rather than moving together.
STOCKS (Cybersecurity Leads, Semiconductors Slide Again)
Cybersecurity reclaimed leadership this week. CRWD and PANW both posted double-digit gains, a full reversal from their sharp declines last week.
Semiconductor equipment names extended their own reversal in the opposite direction. LRCX, KLAC, and AMAT all fell double digits again, continuing the pattern from the prior week.
ORCL and SNDK joining them shows the pullback broadening beyond pure equipment names into software and storage.
Technical Takeaway
This week's price action is defined by rotation.
Cybersecurity swung back to leadership after last week's sell-off, while semiconductor equipment extended its own decline in the other direction. Energy and gold rallied together as equities fell on muted volatility, and JPY weakened sharply against both USD and GBP.
